Lets talk LOW SODIUM! Being on a Low Sodium diet can be difficult at times, I’m looking to trade recipes, product discoveries and articles for all those out there watching their sodium levels.  If you have something to share, let me know about it.

When I was on steroids and had the potential to retain lots of water, I tried to go low sodium. The best tips I can offer are that I simply don’t add salt to anything (I never have though, really) and I tried to stay away from processed foods. There’s so much sodium in almost anything we buy. Why? I don’t think it’s necessary. I need to get back in the habit of reading labels again.

Hi to everyone struggling with a LOW SODIUM diet. This is a life altering change in eating habits. Where you would think that there would be not salt-THERE IS SALT! For example, KETCHUP. This is something that should never have salt in it, but if you check the label in most ketchups there is a high sodium level. I did find the NO SALT ADDED KETCHUP from HEINZ, but you should not have to look in simple items like that.
    Well, what’s your opinion?

Gotta say that I love salt with a passion, and during one period when I had to cut back on it, I felt the pain. My method was to avoid all canned/frozen meals, cook my own stuff without salt, and just add a touch when cooked. The salt subs did nothing at all for me. I’d as soon go without.

    Good luck!

If you write new posts, you’ll have more success getting people to interact. The more often you update, you better your site will do in google. Make a few posts on some hints that you have and write about why salt can be a problem for some people. :)

Yep. It’s amazing how much salt is in just about everything we eat! The only real way to avoid it is to eat fresh fruits and vegetables (with no salt added) and drink water.

When you are grocery shopping look for foods that contain 5% or lower sodium. This will help limit your sodium/salt intake. If you want to get extreme do a little research into The Dash Diet. This is the sodium limiting diet recommended to people with high blood pressure, or at risk of heart disease. Just be careful because this is not a weight loss plan. You must limit your calories and get more exercise for weight loss.
